WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University Department of Athletics is now on Twitter as announced by the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations on Thursday. Fans of the Rams and Lady Rams can now stay connected to all the happenings in the WSSU Department of Athletics by following WSSU Athletics on the popular social networking site.
Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read other users' updates known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length which are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have subscribed to them (known as followers). Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow anybody to access them. Users can send and receive tweets via the Twitter website, Short Message Service (SMS) on their mobile or handheld device or via external applications. The service is free to use over the Internet, but using SMS may incur phone service provider fees, depending on wireless carrier and individual service plans.
Anyone wishing to follow the Rams and Lady Rams on Twitter may do so by accessing the WSSU Department of Athletics Twitter page at http://twitter.com/WSSUAthletics or by logging in to Twitter and creating an account that will allow them to follow WSSU Athletics through updates.
“The business of college athletics is continually changing and evolving and Twitter and other social networking applications are helping alumni, fans, students and athletic supporters to stay in near constant contact with their favorite college and college athletic department” WSSU Interim Director of Athletic Tonia Walker commented.
“As we try to keep up with the demand from our supporters for continuous information about the daily goings-on in the world of WSSU Athletics, we found it extremely advantageous to use both the traditional WSSU Athletic Website [at WSSURams.com] and the non-traditional methods of communication like Twitter and other social networking applications. We are constantly looking for new ways to keep in contact with our supporters in an attempt to continue to stay in touch with our fans.” Walker added.
