WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem State University Clarence "Big House" Gaines Athletic Hall of Fame will welcome eight individuals in the induction class of 2008 as confirmed by the Hall of Fame Committee Chair, Kimberly Reese, Wednesday.
The WSSU Athletic Hall of Fame enshrines an annual class of distinguished individuals in three categories as former athletes, former coaches, and individuals who have exhibited meritorious service to the University and the Athletic Department.
The 2008 Hall of Fame class includes one former coach and seven former athletes as announced by the 14-member Hall of Fame committee.
Mr. Tim Grant is the lone coaching inductee in the 2008 class. He is joined by seven former WSSU athletes including five former Rams football players in Leonardo Horne, Winfred Robert Mack, Tory Woodbury, James Winbush, and Jack Cameron. Former Lady Ram softball player Laurie Underwood and former Ram wrestler Danny Boden round out the 2008 class of inductees.
All eight inductees will be honored with enshrinement into the WSSU Clarence "Big House" Gaines Athletic Hall of Fame in a formal induction ceremony to be held on September 12, 2008 at the Anderson Center McNeil Banquet Hall. The event will take place on the day before the Rams' first home game against the Savannah State Tigers.
Tickets to the induction ceremony are available for $75 through the WSSU Department of Athletics and the admission price includes a ticket to the Rams' game versus the Savannah State Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
