Personal:Michael Winbush, a native of Goldsboro, NC, was a four-year starter from 1980-84, and served as captain of the Rams football team in both his junior and senior years. He was named Rookie of the Week a total of three times and was a seven-time CIAA Player of the Week recipient. Michael was named the Most Valuable Player in the 1984 CIAA Championship football game against Norfolk State University. He ranks fifth in all-time passing in Ram history. He served as an assistant football coach and offensive coordinator at Winston-Salem State University for 12 years. He also served in that capacity at Norfolk State University and Virginia State University. In addition, Michael served as Head Women's Softball Coach at WSSU from 1993-2000 in which his team record was 191-65. His team won the CIAA Southern Division Championship and the CIAA Softball Championship with a record of 32-2. That same year, he also received the C.E. "Big House" Gaines award for outstanding coaching. Michael earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education. Currently, he resides in Winston-Salem and is the Head Football coach of Atkins High School.
