Hampton, Kheir, Morrison Selected for 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships
WSSU to send three competitors to national championship meet
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Three members of the Winston-Salem State Rams women’s track & field team will have national titles in their sites in the coming weeks. Winston-Salem State sophomore Ty-Leah Hampton and juniors Fawzia Kheir and Tametris Morrison were selected as three of the 377 participants selected to compete in the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet hosted by IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The trio earned the selections after running some of the top times in their respective events this season.
Hampton will have the most work to do among the trio as she was selected to compete in both the women’s 100m dash preliminaries as well as the women’s 200m dash preliminaries. She will enter the meet as the 21st selection with an 11.86 at the 2016 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet. She was also selected to compete in the women’s 200m dash as the 13th selection in the women’s 200m dash after running a 24.01 at the 2016 CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The selection marks the second trip to the national championship meet for Hampton as she went last season as a member of the Rams 4x100m relay team last season.
Morrison will make also make her second trip to the national championship meet after finishing fifth in the women’s 400m hurdle finals last season. This season, Morrison was the 21st selection after running a 1:00.59 at the 2016 CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Kheir was selected to compete in the women’s 800m run preliminaries. She was the 13th selection in the event with a 2:10.10 at the 2016 Liberty Twilight.
The 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet will be held on May 26-28th in Bradenton, Florida at the IMG Academy. The freshman from Burlington, N.C. earned second team honors after a stellar season.

The Rams struggled to get their offense going as the team was held scoreless with just two hits in the tough loss.
