Winston-Salem, NC - Winston-Salem State University Director of Cheerleader Operations Lori Dobbins, announced on Wednesday that the WSSU Cheerleading squad will hold open mascot tryouts on August 19th, 2005 at 3:30 pm and will hold Junior Varsity Cheerleading tryouts on August 29th, 30th, and 31st from 5:30 - 9:30 pm, both in the C.E. Gaines Center.
The WSSU mascot, which is a year-long paid position, will actively participate in all home football and basketball games as well as other campus and community events throughout the city of Winston-Salem.
The junior varsity cheerleaders will cheer all year long, serving in a reserve role for the 2005 football season, while serving as the primary cheerleaders for the WSSU women's basketball team.
The tryouts are open to any full-time Winston-Salem State University student who has a cumulative grade point average of 2.3 or higher and who possesses a high level of school spirit. This candidate must be able to perform in front of large groups of people and must be physically active.
The WSSU mascot and JV cheerleaders will travel to many road games throughout the season, and will travel with the varsity cheerleading squad. Individuals who are interested in trying out for the mascot or JV cheerleader positions must be able to coordinate their schedules in order to allow for the necessary road-game travel.
The mascot tryouts will be held on August 19th at 3:30 pm in the C.E. Gaines Center while the JV cheerleading tryouts will take place over a three-day period, starting on August 29th and ending August 31st, 2005 from 5:30 - 9:30 pm.
