Rams Shut Out Virginia State for 1-0 Win in CIAA Opener
PETERSBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams took a 1-0 win over the Virginia State Trojans, Saturday. With the win, the Rams improved to 3-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play when the team held on for a shutout win over the Trojans.
The game was a defensive battle with both teams finding runs hard to come by in the victory. The Rams and the Trojans combined for 11 total hits in the game with 10 total runners left on base. WSSU totaled seven hits in the game with junior German Reyes leading the way with a two-of-three effort at the plate with a double.
The Rams scored the sole run of the game early when junior infielder Paco Martin hit an RBI double that scored Reyes. The run was all that was needed as the Rams held the Trojans scoreless for the remainder of the game to take home the win.
WSSU junior Adam Satanoff pitched the Rams to the complete-game shutout win. He pitched all seven innings for the Rams, allowing just four hits and three strikeouts.
