WSSU Rams Whollop Mars Hill Lions, 10-1

Winston-Salem, NC -- Winston-Salem State got a strong pitching performance from Peter Schultz, and Brandon Harrison and Rafael Gonzalez combined for five rbi's as the Rams rolled to a 10-1 win over Mars Hill College on Thursday at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem.

The Rams got on the board in the second inning, when a Brandon Harrison scored Rafael Gonzales, followed by Tyler Hickernell scoring on a Paco Martin sacrifice fly.

In the third inning, Gonzalez doubled down the left field line scoring Aaron Jones and Levi Grassley, and a German Reyes sacrifice fly scored Gonzalez. Another Brandon Harrison single scored Hickernell giving the Rams a 6-0 advantage.

WSSU plated three more runs it the fourth inning and one in the sixth to close out the scoring.

Brandon Harrison led WSSU with three rbi's, and Rafael Gonzales went two for three with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Aaron Jones went three for four with a run scored, while Tyler hickernell and German Ryes each had an rbi. Hickernell also scored four runs on the evening.

Peter Schultz picked up the win going 6.0 innings allowing four hits and one unearned run, with three strikeouts.  John Markley went 2.0 innings and did not allow a hit or run, while Seth Mahaffey finished off eh contest throwing the final inning, allowing just one hit.

The WSSU Rams will host the Shaw Bears, as they open Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play with a double header on Saturday at BB&T Ballpark in downtown Winston-Salem, NC. The price of admission is just $5, and free for WSSU Students.
