Rams Fall 10-4 To Brevard Tornados; Snap 14-Game Win Streak

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Winston-Salem State University fell behind early and could not overcome the Tornados of Brevard College in a 10-4 loss at BB&T Ballpark.

Brevard struck early by plating four runs on two hits with a WSSU error in the first inning.

WSSU would strike back in the third inning when Travis Moore grounded out scoring Paco Martin, and Levi Grassley would flyout to center field, scoring Brandon Harrison and pulling the Rams to within 2 at 4-2.

The Rams would get closer in the fourth, when Tyler Hickernell would hit a moon shot home run to left field, cutting Brevard's lead to 4-3. 

But the Tornados would score six runs over the next four innings to take a 10-3 lead before the Rams would get one back one a Aaron Jones home run to deep right field in the eighth inning but the Rams could get no closer and would eventually fall by the score of 10-4.

The loss drops WSSU to 20-7 overall and snaps their 14 game win streak.

Paco Martin finished two for five, while Brandon Harrison and Conner Andrus each went one for four with one run scored. Tyler Hickernell went one for three with one run scored and an rbi, as did Aaron Jones. Hickernell connect on his fourth home run of the season, while Jones hit his first home run of the season. Travis Moore finished one for five with a rbi, while Rafael Gonzalez went one for three. Levi Grassley also picked up a rbi. 

Tyler Hickernell (3-4) picked up the loss for the Rams.

The Rams will travel to Benedict College on Thursday before traveling to play a weekend series in Murfreeboro,  NC with CIAA foe, Chowan University.
