BREVARD, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Rams allowed two late runs and fell 6-5 to the Brevard Tornados on Tuesday night.
The loss drops WSSU to 31-9 overall, while Brevard improves to 15-29 on the season.
WSSU got on the scoreboard first, as a walk issued to Brandon Harrison would plate the Rams first runner. Harrison would advance to second on a wild pitch, and would score when German Reyes would reach on an error by the first baseman.
The Rams would get more runs in the second inning as Tyler Hickernell single through the middle, followed by a Connor Andrus single. Hickernell would score on a Paco Martin fielder's choice. Travis Moore would reach on an error by the third baseman, scoring Martin, and giving WSSU a 3-0 lead.
Jordan Carlton was spot on through the first four innings before running into to trouble in the fifth, when the Tornados would score three runs on four hits and tied the game at 3-3.
WSSU would come right back in the sixth inning with a run of their own, as Rafael Gonzalez, who reached on an error, would score on a Paco Martin double down the left field line.
Brevard battled back in the bottom half of the sixth inning with another run to tie the game at 4-4.
Not to be outdone, WSSU fought back to take a 5-4 lead on a Rafael Gonzalez double to right center field, scoring German Reyes.
But on this night, the Rams bullpen could not hold the lead, as Brevard would score twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a 6-4 win over WSSU.
Paco Martin went two for three with a run scored and a run batted in, nad Conner Andrus and German Reyes each went two for four, with Reyes also picking up a rbi. Rafael Gonzalez was one for five with a run scored and a rbi, and Aaron Jones finished one for three.
