WINGATE, NC - WSSU's Brandon Harrison drove in four runs University in NCAA Division II baseball action at Ron Christopher Stadium and Plyler Athletic Field. The Rams improve to 38-8 overall while Wingate falls to 29-21 on the season.
WSSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead, when Brandon Harrison led off the third with a home run.
Wingate answered with five runs in the fourth to take the lead, 5-2, and would push its lead to 6-2 in the fifth inning.
The Rams tied the game in the eighth, scoring four runs without a hit. A pair of walks and an error plated the first run. An RBI groundout from Rafael Gonzalez made it 6-4, while another error made it a one-run game. An RBI groundout from Brandon Harrison tied the game at six.
That would be all of the scoring until the 11th. Winston-Salem State would score the game-winning run on a throwing error, with the Bulldogs trying to throw the runner out at home with the bases loaded. Two runs would score on the play, while a two-run double from Harrison capped the scoring to make the final margin 12-6.
Michael Drye got the win, improving to 4-2. He allowed just one hit in four innings, striking out six and walking one.
Joshua Karr took the loss for Wingate, falling to 3-4. He allowed six unearned runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings, striking out one.
Brandon Harrison was two-for-four with a home run and four RBI to lead the Rams, while Travis Hickernell and Rafael Gonzalez added two RBI each, while Levi Grassley was two-for-five with three runs scored for the Rams.
The Bulldogs' Michael Godinez was three-for-five with a double, RBI and run scored to lead Wingate, while Jason Hunter finished three-for-four with a double and an RBI and Eric Serra had two RBI and a run scored.
