FLORENCE, SC - Francis Marion scored three runs in the sixth and eighth innings to roll over the Winston-Salem State Rams 6-1, in a baseball game played in Florence, SC.
The loss drops the #24 ranked WSSU Rams to 38-11 overall, while the Francis Marion Patriots improve to 27-18.
The battle between both pitching staff's ruled the first five and half innings, before Francis Marion would break the game open with a three run sixth inning, highlighted by Michael Wilson's two run single.
Winston-Salem State would answer back in eighth, when Conner Andrus singled home Tyler Hickernell.
But the Patriots would score three in the bottom half of the eighth inning to take a 6-14 victory over the Rams.
Travis Moore finished three for four and Rafael Gonzalez also went three for four to lead the Rams hitting attack. Conner Andrus went one for four with a rbi, and Brandon Harrison went one for three. Tyler Hickernell scored the Rams lone run.
Jordan Carlton took the loss (6-1), going 5.0 innings, giving up three hits and two runs to go with three walks and a strikeout. Seth Mahaffey pitched 1.0 inning, giving up two hits and one run with a walk and a strikeout. Michael Drye pitched 1.2 innings, with four strikeouts, but allowing three runs, of which just one was earned. JR Wright pitched a third of an inning for the WSSU Rams.
Jarrod Reed led Francis Marion, going three for five with a run batted in, while Brett Fulmer finished two for three with two rbi's and a run scored. Michael Wilson went one for two with two rbi's and two runs scored. Jacob Golliday was one for one with a run batted in.
Brandon Shoots notched the win for the Patriots, holding the Rams to six hits and no runs in six innings of work. Chance DuCharme pitched 2.0 innings, allowing one run and two this to go with two walks and two strikeouts. Daniel Barfield closed out the game on the mound pitching 1.0 inning with one walk and two strikeouts.
