WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Winston-Salem State got a solid pitching effort from Austin Comesanas and four different players drove in runs as the Rams blanked Bluefield State 5-0, Tuesday evening at BB&T Ballpark in downtown in Winston-Salem, N.C.

WSSU got on the scoreboard in the second inning, when Jacob Barber led off the inning with a single to right field, followed by a Levi Grassley walk. After a ground ball out moved the runners up a base, Aaron Hatch singled to right field, scoring Jacob Barber. Gabian Mundo hit a deep fly ball to center field, scoring Levin Grassley on the sacrifice fly, giving the Rams a 2-0 lead

In the bottom of the fifth, Leland Clemmons tripled to deep center field, and the next batter, Ray Crawford, drove him home on a fly out sacrifice fly to right field, giving the Rams a 3-0 advantage.

In the sixth inning, Levi Grassley led off the inning with a single, and Alex Grubb walked. An Aaron Hatch fly ball to center field advanced Grassley to third. Alex Grubb would steal second base, forcing an errant throw from the catcher and Levi Grassley scored on the play.

The Rams picked up their final run in the seventh inning, as Jacob Barber drove in Conner Andrus, who reached on a fielder's choice, giving WSSU the 5-0 lead, and win.

With the win, Winston-Salem State University improves to 2-5 on the season.

For WSSU, Jacob Barber led the hitting attack, going two for three with a rbi and a run scored, and Ray Crawford also finished the day going two for three, with a run batted in. Levi Grassley finished one for two with two runs scored and Aaron Hatch went one for four with a run batted in. Leland Clemmons was one for four with a run scored and Derrick Burnett picked up his first hit of the season, going one for one.

Austin Comesanas had a solid outing, going six innings, allowing just two hits with two walks, while striking out five Blues hitters. The Rams bullpen also had a good day, with Jospeh Herbert pitching one and two thirds innings, allowing one hit with one walk and a strikeout. Seth McHaffey pitched a third of an inning, and Alex Grubb pitched the ninth inning walking two and striking out two.

Winston-Salem State will rest until Friday, when they will begin a three game home series with Mercyhurst University at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem. Friday's first [itched is scheduled for 1:00 pm, depending on the weather.
