RAMS ROLL TO 14-4 WIN OVER WHEELING JESUIT

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - For the third consecutive game, the Rams used the middle innings to bust open a close game, en route to a 14-4 win over Wheeling Jesuit on Sunday afternoon.

With the win, WSSU improves to 6-5, while Wheeling Jesuit falls to 0-4.

The win also gave the Rams the four game series sweep over the Cardinal of Wheeling Jesuit.

The Cardinals got on the board first, as they plated two runs in the top of the third inning.

But the Winston-Salem State Rams came right back with three runs in the bottom of the third, helped by a two run triple from Ray Crawford.

WSSU would score single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before putting the game out of any kind of reach in the bottom of the seventh.

Levi Grassley would pick up the first rbi of the inning when his single scored Ray Crawford. Conner Andrus doubled, scoring Levi Grassley and Jacob Barber. Eddie Araujo singled and scored Conner Andrus.

After batting around in the seventh, Ray Crawford came to the plate for the second time and doubled, scoring Leland Clemmons and Eddie Araujo.

WSSU would add one more run in the eight, when Conner Andrus homered to deep left field, to close out the scoring.

Ray Crawford led the Rams at the plate with four runs batted in, while finishing three for four with three runs scored. Conner Andrus had a big afternoon, going three for five with three rbi's and three run scored. Andrus also had a double and a home run. Levi Grassley also went three for five, with two runs batted in and a run scored. Leland Clemmons finished three for five with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Jacob Barber and Eddie Araujo each went one for four with a rbi and a run scored. Gavin Culler and Aaron Hatch were both one for five with a run scored. Devin McLemore finished zero for three with a rbi and a run scored.

WSSU got great pitching all weekend from both the starters and the bullpen, used six pitchers on the day to keep Wheeling Jesuit at bay. Austin Comesanas would go three innings, allowing three hits and one earned run, while Scott Wells went 2.2 innings, allowing three hits and two runs. Eric Corlett, Devin McLemore and Joseph Herbert combined to go 3.1 innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out two.

Tony Connecher led Wheeling Jesuit, going two for five with a run scored, while Joe San Fellipo finished two for four with a run scored.  Tyler Kowalczyk went one for two with a rbi and a run scored, and Adam young also picked up an rbi.

Winston-Salem State will have a few days off before returning to the diamond, as they will host the Chowan Hawks at BB&T Ballpark for double headers on Saturday, March 1st and Sunday March 2nd.
