MARS HILL, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State Rams fell behind big early and could not come all the way back, as they fell 9-6 to the Marks Hills Lions on Friday Henderson Field. Mars Hill improved to 13-17 on the year while the Rams fell to 19-10 on the season.

With the loss, the WSSU Rams fall to improve to 19-10 overall, while Mars Hill improves to 13-17.

The Mars Hill Lions jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead, led by Evan Rogers' leadoff home run, and collected four hits in their first at-bat that also included two triples.

Mars Hill's Evan Rogers hit his second homerun of the contest, a two-run blast to left-center in the second inning to extend Mars Hill's lead to 6-0. The Lions added two more runs in the third inning, and another in the fourth on a wild pitch to stake a 9-0 lead.

Winston-Salem State finally was able to get on the scoreboard in the fifth inning scoring, as Ray Crawford would single and advanced to third on a Conner Andrus double to deep center field. Levi Grassley would reach on a Lion error, scoring Crawford.

The Rams would add four runs in the sixth inning, started by Anthony Nutall being hit by a pitch and Gavin Culler singling up the middle. Ray Crawford would single to right field for two rbi's. A Conner Andrus bunt single would score Gavin Culler on a Lion throwing error, and Levi Grassley would bring home Crawford on a sacrifice fly to cut Mars Hill's lead to 9-5.

WSSU would add one more run in the ninth inning on a Conner Andrus double that would score Aaron Hatch.

But that would be as close as the Rams would get, as they would come up three runs short, 9-6.

Winston-Salem State was led at the plate by Ray Crawford who picked up two rbi's on three of five hitting. He also scored two runs. Aaron hatch went three for four with two runs scored and Conner Andrus finished three for six with a run batted in. Levi Grassley went two for four with a rbi, while Anthony Nutall went two for four with a run scored. Gavin Culler went one for five with a run scored and Colby Keane went one for five.

Devin McLemore took the loss for WSSU, going just 1.2 innings, allowing eight hits and six runs, including two home runs. Jordan Carlton pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs and six hits. Seth McHaffey pitched one scoreless inning, allowing one hit.

Mars Hill was led by Evan Roger's three rbi and two hits, while Dalton Eisonbath picked up a couple of rbi on two hits. Andy Runion had two hits and two rbi, and Alex Zachary picked up a rbi.

Winston-Salem State and Mars Hill will wrap up the three game series on Saturday with at double header starting at noon.
