Rams Take 10-4 Loss to Millersville

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-1) gave a solid pitching performance, but the team fell short against the Millersville Marauders (1-1) in game one of a doubleheader, Saturday afternoon. The Rams finished the game with six hits, but the team could only plate four runs in the tough loss. 

The Rams took the loss in spite of a solid overall game. The team finished the game with six hits and only one error. WSSU junior center fielder Randy Norris did most of the damage for the Rams with a two-for-five batting effort with three RBI. Junior designated hitter Michael Moorehead added a pair of hits of his own.

The Rams got off to a slow start while their opponents jumped out of the gate. The Rams allowed four first inning runs to the Marauders and two more second inning runs to fall behind, 6-0. The Rams answered in the third inning when Norris hit a three-RBI double to cut the team's deficit in half in the bottom of the third inning. The Rams allowed a run in the third and fourth innings to fall behind, 8-3 before junior Brandon Nania scored on a Millersville wild pitch to cut the WSSU deficit back down to four runs, 8-4. The Rams allowed runs in the seventh and eighth innings to take the hard-fought loss.

WSSU freshman Peyton Bennett (0-1) took the pitching loss, going two innings for the team. He allowed six runs (six earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts. Four more Rams would take the mound in the loss.
