MILWAUKEE, WIS. - Winston-Salem State used a strong second half to pull even, and then rode the hot shooting of Marquez Jones to outscore Lane College in overtime in securing a 99-96 win over the Dragons in the Fresh Coast Classic in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Saturday.
The win pulls the WSSU Rams to an even 3-3 on the season, while Lane College falls to 1-2 on the year.
The Lane Dragons got started quickly and rolled into the locker room at halftime with a seven point lead, 43-36.
But the second half was all Rams as they battled back from a deficit of 10 points, to force an overtime period, where they outscored Lane 9-6, to secure the win.
Marquez Jones led all scorers with a career high 35 points to go with four rebounds. Preston Ross added 17 points and eight rebounds, and Javan Wells added 16 points, five rebounds and three assists. Victor Holloway added 13 points and four rebounds, while Tyre Desmore chipped in 10 points, three rebounds, five assists and a steal for the WSSU Rams.
Jason Price led Lane with 24 points, while Tony Payne added 23 points and five rebounds. Bryant Hill chipped in 15 points, nine rebounds and Derek Raymond added 12 points and three rebounds for Lane.
