  • Colon, Crandell Named to BOXTOROW D2 All-America Team

    RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State University basketball duo of senior forward William Crandell and junior guard Robert Colon were both named to the 2019 BOXTOROW All-America Team, Monday afternoon. The honor comes in addition to Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) All-Conference honors for both players as well.

    CHARLOTTE, NC – After a strong regular season, the Winston-Salem State Rams brought home several honors when the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced its post-season honors. The Rams duo of senior forward William Crandell and junior guard Robert Colon were both named to the All-CIAA team while freshman forward Xavier Fennell earned a spot on the CIAA All-Rookie team. 
  • Rams Hold on for an 84-82 Win Over Livingstone in Regular Season Finale

    SALISBURY, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (12-14, 7-11 CIAA) closed the 2018-19 regular season on a high note when the team took a clutch 84-82 win over the Livingstone Blue Bears (16-11, 9-9 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. After falling behind late, the Rams bounced back in the final minutes to claim the win.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (11-14, 6-11 CIAA) used some clutch defense to claim a thrilling 70-69 win over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (8-16, 5-12 CIAA), Wednesday evening. The Rams had to fend off a furious Golden Bulls comeback to secure a win in their final home game of the season.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (10-14, 5-11 CIAA) had one of their best performances of the season when the team took a 66-50 win over the Fayetteville State Broncos (6-17, 5-11 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams put on a show for the near-capacity crowd at the C.E. Gaines Center.

  • Late Drought Costs Rams in 63-50 Loss at Virginia Union

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (9-11, 4-7 CIAA) played a solid game, but a late drought cost the team in a 63-50 road loss to the Virginia Union Panthers (12-9, 8-3 CIAA), Monday evening. The Rams played some solid defense in the game, but the team managed just 21 second half points in the tough loss.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (9-10, 4-7 CIAA) took a heartbreaking 83-82 loss to the Livingstone Blue Bears (14-7, 7-5 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams took the loss in spite of one of their most balanced games of the season with four Rams reaching double digit scoring in the game.

    FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (9-8, 4-5 CIAA) had a big second half effort that included holding off a late comeback effort in a 66-63 road win over the Fayetteville State Broncos (3-14, 2-8 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams got the best of their opponents in a game that featured some quality defense by both teams.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (8-8, 3-5 CIAA) played a solid game, but the team faded late in a hard-fought 73-69 loss to the Shaw Bears (8-9, 3-5 CIAA), Wednesday evening. The Rams had a five-point lead with just under eight minutes left to play, but the team went cold and slowly faded away in the tough loss.

    RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (8-7, 3-4 CIAA) fended off a furious comeback to claim a 63-57 win at Saint Augustine’s (4-12, 1-7 CIAA). The Rams secured their first win at Emery Gymnasium since February 8, 2014 and remained undefeated in Central intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division play.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (7-8, 3-3 CIAA) gave a tremendous effort, but the team came up just short in an 82-79 overtime loss to the Elizabeth City State Vikings (12-6, 5-3 CIAA), Monday evening. After trailing at halftime, the Rams had a big second half to tie the game, but the team could not carry their efforts over into the overtime period in the hard-fought loss.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (7-6, 2-3 CIAA) rolled to a big 90-84 win over the Chowan Hawks (10-3, 3-2 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams controlled the game from the opening tip, but they had to fend off a tough Chowan team in order to claim the win.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Winston-Salem State Rams basketball fans will have the chance to get an early jump on Saturday’s action as the women’s and men’s basketball doubleheader between the Rams and the Chowan Hawks has been moved up to a 1:00 p.m. start. The change was made due to the threat of inclement weather heading into the area late Saturday.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (6-6, 1-3 CIAA) gave a great effort for the entire game, but a late drought proved costly in an 81-70 loss to the Virginia State Trojans (11-3, 3-0 CIAA). The Rams controlled much of the game, but the team couldn’t overcome a late run by the Trojans in the tough loss.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (6-5) used a big second half to take a 96-79 win over the Claflin Panthers (5-9, 4-5 CIAA), Friday afternoon. After scoring just 38 first half points in the game, the Rams broke out for 58 second half points to claim their first conference win of the season.

    BOWIE, MD –There was plenty of scoring to go around, but in the end, the Winston-Salem State Rams (5-5, 0-2 CIAA) could not quite keep up when the team took a 110-105 double overtime road loss to the Bowie State Bulldogs (5-6, 1-0), Sunday afternoon. The Rams took the loss in spite of a great offensive effort, but struggles at the free throw line proved to be costly in the hard-fought loss.

    LINCOLN, PA – The Winston-Salem State Rams (5-4, 0-1 CIAA) gave a solid effort late, but the team fell just short when they opened Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play with an 81-77 road loss to the Lincoln (Pa.) Lions (7-4, 2-0 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams played a solid overall game, but the team could not stop the Lions ate with they took the tough loss.

    BOONE, NC – There was no shortage of effort, but the Winston-Salem State Rams (2-3) just could not find the answers they needed when they took a 91-64 road loss to the Appalachian State Mountaineers (2-4), Monday evening. The Rams put on an aggressive attack, but the team could not quite keep up with the sharp-shooting Mountaineers in the loss.

    ATLANTA, GA – The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-2) broke into the winners’ column with a 64-55 victory over the Fort Valley State Wildcats (0-6), Saturday afternoon at the SIAC/CIAA Challenge. The game was a hard-fought, competitive one from the very beginning, but thanks to some clutch play and heart, it was the Rams who prevailed for their first win of the season and the first win under the guidance of head coach Cleo Hill, Jr.

    ATLANTA, GA – The Winston-Salem State Rams (0-2) staged a big second half comeback, but the effort was not enough as the Rams took a 66-61 loss to the #17 Morehouse Maroon Tigers (1-0) at the CIAA/SIAC Challenge, Friday evening. After taking a halftime deficit at halftime, the Rams scored 41 second half points, but it was not quite enough as the team finished the day with the loss.

The team is also predicted to finish second in the CIAA Southern Division as well. Under the guidance of a new head coach and an experienced team, there is reason for a lot of optimism about the 2018-19 edition of the Rams.
