Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Rams basketball team did something that it had not done all season long on Thursday evening in the CE Gaines Center, and that was win a game that they did not lead at halftime.

Until this evening, the Rams had posted a 10-0 record in games that they led at the half, and were winless in games that they either trailed or were tied with opponents at the half (0-3). However, despite the tie score at the half (27-27) on Thursday evening, the Rams were able to avoid their second straight loss and get back on the winning track with a 62-49 victory over the visiting Vikings of Elizabeth City State University.

WSSU used a 13-1 run over a span of four and a half minutes late in the second half to pull ahead for good and improve to 11-3 overall and 2-2 in the CIAA.

The Rams had five players in double figures in the contest, two with twelve points (Audly Wehner and Jay Maynard), two with 11 points (Alleggrie Guinn and Darnell Gregory) and one with ten points (Curtis Hines).

The Rams recorded a season-low six turnovers and despite not shooting the ball well, going 23 of 58 from the floor (39.7%), they still managed to cruise to a 62-49 win.

Leading the way for the Vikings was Jonathan Harris who tallied a game-high 22 points.

With the win, the Rams improve to 11-3 overall and 2-2 in the CIAA while the Vikings fall to 6-7 and remain winless in the conference.

The Rams will return to action on Saturday evening in Salisbury, NC where they will face their geographical CIAA neighbor, the Livingstone College Blue Bears in an important CIAA Western Division contest. Game time is slated for 7:30 pm.
