Final Stats

DAYTONA BEACH, FL - Head coach Bobby Collins and the Rams came to the Sunshine State looking to earn their third win in their last four games and Winston-Salem State University did just that on Saturday afternoon in Daytona Beach, Florida as they never trailed the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman College en route to a 56-48 victory at Moore Gymnasium.

The visiting Rams jumped out to an early 17-4 lead as Winston-Salem State University used five consecutive three-point field goals to open the game with three different WSSU players recording baskets from behind the three-point arch.

The lead would prove to be an insurmountable one for the Wildcats as WSSU used their trademark suffocating defense to hold Bethune-Cookman to only five first half field goals as BCC missed 20 of their 25 shots in the first half of play.

WSSU's defense and 43.5% shooting performance from the field enabled the Rams to take a 12-point lead to the locker room at halftime as WSSU led 30-18 at the break.

The two teams seemingly switched roles in the second half as WSSU shot a disappointing 23.1% from the field, hitting on only six of their 26 field goal attempts in the game's final 20 minutes.

WSSU survived a seven-minute and 20-second second-half scoring drought as the Wildcats cut the Rams' lead to as little as five points with 3:26 remaining in the contest.

Timely free throw shooting and solid rebounding from Jamal Durham who tallied a game-high 12 rebounds helped the Rams hold on for the win as WSSU improved to 3-1 over their last four contests.

Darius Floyd led the Rams with 17 points in the contest as he and Jamal Durham were the only two WSSU players in double-digits in scoring.  Durham added 12 rebounds to his 16 points as he recorded his first double-double of the season.  Jimmy Hudson led the Wildcats with a team-high 17 points in the loss.

The win improves the Rams to 4-19 on the season while the loss drops Bethune-Cookman to 4-14 overall.

WSSU returns to action on January 29, 2007 at 7:00 pm as they travel to Tallahassee, Florida to face the Rattlers of Florida A&M University.
