Post Game Quotes: WSSU 67, St. Augustine's 87
Senior Guard Jay Maynard:
On what St. Augustine's did that caused problems for the Rams..."I think it is that we just didn't come out completely ready. I mean, this league is tough, teams get better and better every year and we have to come ready, or it's going to be tough to win. We have to come out with intensity."
On the Rams shooting..."We didn't shoot well. Myself, I have to hit shots. I need to do that for my teammates, and I didn't. I take that personally, and take it upon myself."
On the surgery, and is that affecting his shooting..."It isn't my leg. I don't know exactly what it is. It feels good [my shot] but it just isn't falling. I need to shoot my way out of it. I'll get over it. Shooters shoot. I have to take my shots, have to make sure they are good, smart shots, and just take them. They will start falling."
Are you thinking about the Tournament?..."Not right now really. It's in everyone's mind as it gets closer, but I am concentrating on our games now. We have to try to better our position in the conference and go into it hot, and we aren't doing that now."
Head Coach Philip Stitt:
Coach, what was the story tonight, what are your general thoughts on this loss?... "I thought that we just didn't get it done. It is tough to go stretches without scoring [nearly four minutes to start the second half] and it is very difficult to win in this league without solid point guard play, and we come out and have our guards throw the ball away, and pick up fouls. We were in foul trouble for most of the night. We had some of our key players on the bench in both halves due to the foul situation."
Do you make some changes now? Start to re-examine the scheme?..."Our stuff works when we execute it, and tonight we didn't. We can't just shoot our way out of things, and we have a tendency to do that. I think that we need to get solid intensity from all of our guys and match other team's intensity. We go from intensity to being soft, sometimes in one half. We can't have that."

Desmond People's hurt you guys again tonight with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Were the guys not prepared for that?..."We knew that he was going to get his. He is a very good player, and we knew we couldn't take him completely out of things, we had to try to limit his production. That we didn't do. Especially with some of our guys that match up well against him on the bench with fouls. "
Not a lot of production from the guards again? Is that trend?... "I don't know that I would call it a trend, but sometimes we just don't get the production we need. Its not just the guards, its as a whole. Sometimes we get some production from some areas, and that isn't going to get it done. We need all of our guys to step up. This is a tough league."
So, Johnson C. Smith up next..."Yeah, in the Coliseum at 8:00 pm. Saturday. They are a tough one, and are always tough. It's a rivalry game, you can throw the records out the window for that one, and they have already gotten us down there [in Charlotte, NC], so we have to really concentrate on that. We know their stuff and they know ours. We know that they play that zone, and that they play it as well as anyone, and at the Legacy Classic it caused us problems in the second half. We have to come ready to play."
