Post Game Quotes JCSU 78, WSSU 58 (February 7th, 2004)

Curtis Hines (Fr./G/6'2"/Charlotte, NC) Curtis, What Happened Tonight? "I think that we came out flat. I know that we are a much better team than we showed tonight. It's tough to lose like we have been losing."

The 2-3 zone, did that bother you? "No. We were prepared to see this tonight. But the way to beat that zone is to shoot well, and we didn't. I don't know, we just aren't hitting the shots we need to."

Lowen Wray (Fr./G/5'10"/Charlotte, NC) What is going on, now that you have lost five of six? "It's tough to take. Guys aren't happy. The coaches aren't happy. We have to figure out what is going on."

The guards [including yourself] aren't producing. Is it your responsibility to get the Rams out of this funk? "I don't know. Losing like this isn't fun. I don't know what is up."

Coach Philip Stitt Coach, what are you general comments on tonight's game? "We came out against this team and for whatever reason, decided that we didn't care. It was evident in the way that we played. There was no effort."

Where do you go from here? "We need to get back to caring. We cared in the first half of the season. We were...I guess, hungry. We wanted to prove that we belonged at the top of the CIAA. We gave the effort. And now, we seem satisfied. We are going back to the...we were good. That is over. When you have lost five of six, that isn't good enough. That's not going to get it done in this league. No one cares what you did before. Its what have you done for me lately. It's not going to do it."

What is the problem? "I don't really know. The effort. We are a much different team now. Guys have to realize that this is college basketball. You can't make guys want to play. Playing basketball at this level is a privilege and is the greatest thing you could do. Until they realize that this is an honor that not everyone gets, and that it requires an effort, then we are going to continue to slide. We have got to come out with something consistent...play a full 40."

Tonight, you played well in stretches. "Yeah. We played for about seven minutes in the second half. Again...not going to get it done. You can't do that in the CIAA. Seven minutes is going to get you killed. You have to come out and play a full 40, and we did that against NC Central, but haven't done that since. I don't really know what I can say to motivate. That has to come from within. And these guys haven't shown that we have it. We did in the first semester...not now. This was a talented JCSU team...everyone in the CIAA is talented...Talent can only take you so far, you have to have effort, and we didn't have it."

It starts with the guards. What happened tonight? "It does start with the guards. This is a guard dominated conference. And we didn't get that production tonight. Out best point guard was a guy who doesn't even play the position [Curtis Hines]. That type of thing isn't going to win us a lot
