Nov. 20, 2004

Final Stats

Charlotte, NC - The Rams of Winston-Salem State University improved to 2-1 overall on the season as they easily defeated the Tigers of Saint Paul's College by the score of 85-53 in non-conference basketball action on the second day of the Johnson C. Smith University Tip-Off basketball tournament in Charlotte, NC.

The Rams, who shot 56% from the field on Friday evening picked up on Saturday right where they left off Friday en route to an impressive first half that saw WSSU shoot 58% from the field and 60% from behind the three-point arch en route to a sizable lead from which the Tigers could never recover.

Every player on the Ram roster would record at least two points in the contest, and WSSU forced 32 turnovers that they used to generate 45 points as they picked up their second win of the season.

The first half of play saw the Rams score the first four baskets of the contest as they would never trail and the game would only be tied at the opening tip (0-0).

Junior guard Alleggrie Guinn, who was in his home town playing in front of several friends and family members put on yet another impressive performance. Despite getting into foul trouble in the early-going, he helped spark the Rams in the early part of the second half with all 12 of his points coming in the second stanza of play.

More impressive than the fact that the Rams shot 61% (36 of 59) from the field in the contest, something that they hadn't done since the 1999-2000 season (also in a contest versus Saint Paul's College) was the play of redshirt freshman Roy Peake.

Peake, who had not scored a point for the Rams coming into the game versus SPC, broke out of his slump and recorded the first points of his WSSU basketball career. Peake played 22 minutes, scored 11 points on five-of-six shooting from the floor, dished out four assists, grabbed six steals and a lone rebound all without committing a single turnover.

Guinn and Peake were joined in double-figure scoring by Audly Wehner and Terris Sifford who recorded 10 and 14 points respectively.

Leading the way for the Tigers was Tristan Rankin who recorded a game-high 24 points on six of 12 shooting from the floor.

With the win the Rams improve to 2-1 overall (0-0 CIAA) while the Tigers fall to 0-3 overall (0-1 CIAA) with the loss. WSSU returns to action on Tuesday, November 23rd, 2004 at 7:30 pm as the Rams look to avenge their only loss of the 2004-05 as they take on the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, NC.
