Bison Inside Game Too Much For Rams; Lipscomb Downs WSSU 62-46

NASHVILLE, TN - The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team was outsized on Monday evening in Nashville, Tennessee as the Bison of Lipscomb scored 32 of their 46 total points in the paint as they handed the Rams their eighth loss of the 2006-07 season by the score of 62-46 in front of 1,264 fans at Allen Arena.

Despite shooting 31% from the field during the first 20 minutes of play (nine of 29 field goals), the Rams held to a slim one-point lead headed into the locker room at halftime as WSSU led 21-20.  The lead marked the Rams' third halftime lead of the season.

Second half action started well for the visiting Rams as back-to-back three-point field goals by Darrell Wonge gave WSSU their largest lead of the game, a margin of seven points, as WSSU led the contest 27-20 with 18:01 remaining.

The Rams' lead was short-lived as the Bison mounted a 10-1 run over the next four-and-a-half minutes as Lipscomb turned a seven-point deficit into a one-point lead.  The lead would be one that the Bison would never relinquish en route to the 16-point victory.

The Bison mounted their second substantial run of the final half of play as a 12-2 run gave them what would prove to be an insurmountable 45-33 lead with 6:45 left to play.

The Rams immediately answered back with a 10-2 run of their own to cut the lead to six points at 49-43 as it looked as though WSSU would get themselves back into the game.

The comeback bid was not to be as the Bison answered with a 9-0 run to regain a 13-point advantage at 56-43 with 2:07 to play on back-to-back 3-pointers by LaKory Daniels as Lipscomb put the proverbial "nail in the Rams coffin".

Eddie Ard led the Bison in scoring with a game-high 19 points.  Winston-Salem State placed four players in double figures in the game as Jamal Durham led with 16 points followed by Brian Fisher with 15 and Darrell Wonge with 10. Wonge also got the double-double with a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Bison improve to 4-2 with the win. Winston-Salem State falls to 1-8 with the loss.

The Rams return to action on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 as they face the University of Notre Dame from the Joyce Center in South Bend, IN.
