Post Game Quotes
WSSU Head Coach Philip Stitt
Coach, you guys got three good looks at the tying bucket on those two possessions. Was that what you had hoped for?
Yeah, those three at the end, they were really good looks. I mean we had two of our best shooters take those shots, Alleggrie had two of them, and Frank has the other one. We had a play called for both the missed free throw or a made free throw, so you know, Frank got that last one off right before the buzzer and I thought it was going in, truth be told, but we had some looks, and when we had decent looks tonight, we took advantage of it, but our offense was very inept tonight, and you of course have to give credit to Upstate for that.
They pressured a lot and that seemed to hurt you guys, offensively. Do you agree?
Yeah, we started out ok, and when they pressured us on offense, we just didn't answer the bell. Too many turnovers, which led to fewer possessions for us, and they got 49 shots off and we had only 40, so that's nine more shots for them to get some baskets. We had six more turnovers than they did, so that is six more times that we don't get to look at the basket. Although, I thought that our guys played their behinds off on defense, and so did they. I think that you were watching teams that are very well coached going after each other. Both these teams have scouted each other extensively and each team knew what the other was running, so that kind of contributed to the sloppiness of today's game. They had the better of it tonight.
Guard Frank Johnson
Frank, was the most pressure that you have seen from a team so far this season?
Yeah, I would guess so. They pressed a lot, it was tough.
Did you think that last one was going in?
Yeah, I thought so. I knew when it left my hands that it felt good, it felt like it was going in. It was a great look and great shot, but I don't know, it just didn't fall and I was surprised.
You stepped back to make sure it was a three and to get some space right?
Yes sir, I stepped back, got a good look and it didn't fall.
Was the pressure what did it tonight? You guys not getting it together offensively?
No I don't think that it was necessarily the pressure, we were just very stagnant on offense. We couldn't get into our offense as much as we usually did, so I feel that we were really stagnant and if we had been able to get into our offense quicker and more effectively, then that would have just been that much more defense we could have gotten into and been ready for.
Forward Terris Sifford
What did you see out there on offense today?
I think our offense just wasn't there today. I mean we ran things, and we had things, and we got some open looks, but we just didn't have it all there today on offense.
You guys were down by nine with 1:52 left, did you feel like you could still come back? You did come back, but down then, before the run, did you think you could do it?
Coach tells us every day that we should always have faith in what we are doing, and we did that, and we made a run at it, and almost pulled it out.
Is it kind of hard to take, snapping the win streak at home?
Yeah, even though it was my old coach, Coach Paine, it was something that we really, and I really, wanted, but we just didn't get it done here tonight on offense and that cost us.
