After Postponements, FSU and WSSU Square Off In Key Division Showdowns On Wednesday, January 28th Starting At 5:30 pm

Jan. 28, 2004

Winston-Salem, NC - The weather outside over Winston-Salem, NC may be better this Wednesday afternoon, but there is a storm brewing inside the CE Gaines Center where two key CIAA Western Division basketball contests will take place starting at 5:30 pm this evening.

After a venue change and a one-day postponement, the Winston-Salem State University men's and women's basketball teams will play host to the Broncos and Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State University tonight.

The Lady Rams (10-7 overall, 5-4 CIAA, 3-0 Western Division) will square off against the Lady Broncos (9-9 overall, 5-4 CIAA, 3-1 Western Division) in a match up between the division's first place (WSSU) and second place (FSU) teams. The Lady Broncos look to take over sole possession of first place in the Western Division with a win, while the Lady Rams look to solidify their bid to earn their first seed for the upcoming 2004 CIAA Tournament. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm.

The women's game may be the calm before the proverbial storm as the Rams (13-6 overall, 4-5 CIAA, 1-2 Western Division) face the Broncos (10-8 overall, 4-5 CIAA, 2-2 Western Division) at 7:30 pm. The Rams, who are sitting in unfamiliar territory in fifth place in the CIAA Western Division, will look to jump all the way to second place with a win over the current second place team, the Broncos of Fayetteville State. This match up, always a hotly contested affair, is sure to prove invaluable in the Rams' attempt to climb up the ranks of the CIAA's elite teams, and attempt to break WSSU's first two-game losing skid of 2003-04.

Tickets for tonight's contest are still available. Come out and support your WSSU basketball teams.
