Lawrenceville, VA - Winston-Salem State University Athletic Department officials announced on Thursday that due to inclement weather in the state of Virginia, the pair of WSSU basketball games that were to be played versus Saint Paul's starting at 5:30 pm today, have been postponed for a second consecutive time. A make-up date has yet to be announced.
A band of severe weather over the state of Virginia has made road conditions treacherous and forced Saint Paul's College to close the College, thereby prompting Athletic Department officials from both schools to decide to postpone the intra-division contest.
WSSU Associate Director of Athletics, Tonia Walker, commented on the postponement:
"First and foremost, this is a decision based upon safety. Our primary concern is the safety of both institution's student-athletes, and looking at the current weather situation over the Lawrenceville area, and considering the projected forecasts, we [WSSU Athletic Department Officials and Saint Paul's Athletic Officials] have decided not to play the game this afternoon. We will work on a make-up date that fits both school's schedules and play this game when the travel conditions are safer. This marks the second time that we have postponed this same set of games, but the safety of fans, officials and our student-athletes is paramount."
