Rams Basketball Adds Three Signees

May 22, 2007

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team continues to add to its list of talented signees with the addition of three more student-athletes. The Rams stepped up their recruiting efforts to get the three signees as all three were courted by some of the top collegiate teams in the Southeast. WSSU head coach Bobby Collins will add some much needed height along with a wealth of talent this fall.

"I am extremely pleased and happy with the signing of these three student-athletes," WSSU head coach Bobby Collins said following the addition of the three signees. "It is definitely an asset for us to get a recruiting class of this caliber as this is the beginning of a great foundation in building a Division I program here at WSSU. These young men are well-rounded and versatile and overall this recruiting class is a bonus for us at WSSU."

The Rams' frontcourt definitely got a boost with the addition of a pair of 6'8" forwards. Walter Brock, III will head to WSSU this fall following a great high school career that saw him average 22 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, and five blocks per game at Mount Zion Christian Academy in nearby Durham, North Carolina. Brock broke the Mount Zion Christian Academy record for blocked shots in a season as well as earning the team's Most Improved Award. He was named to the 2007 Champions Classic All-Tournament team and was named MVP of the High Point Basketball Tournament. As a senior, Brock led his team to a 20-8 record. The son of Walter and Toni Brock, he was also recruited Oral Roberts, Florida A&M, North Carolina A&T, Long Island, and Coppin State.

Also signing a National Letter of Intent with the Rams was fellow 6'8" forward McIntoche Alcius, a forward from Clayton High School in Clayton, North Carolina. Alcius will also add some height and ability to the Rams following a solid career at Clayton High School. As a senior, Alcius averaged 18 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, and three steals as well as shooting 52% from the field, 32% from the three-point line, and 70% from the free throw line. He also earned All-Conference honors in the Greater Neuse 4-A Conference. A highly touted recruit, Alcius was recruited by UNC-Asheville, Appalachian State, UNC-Wilmington, Fairfield, UNC-Greensboro, and Gardner Webb. He also received heavy interest from North Carolina State and Wake Forest. He is the son of Mr. Mack Montgomery.

Michael Puckett was the sole guard of the three signees. At 6'4", Puckett will not only give the team a great scoring option at the guard position, but will give the team a defensive option in the backcourt. Puckett heads to WSSU after a pair of seasons at Clinton Junior College in Rock Hill, North Carolina. He averaged 16 points, four rebounds, and three assists per game at Clinton Junior College. He was rewarded with second team All-Region 10 (CJCC) honors as a sophomore and was the runner-up in the voting for conference player of the year honors in 2007. Puckett shot 38% from the three-point line and 48% from the field. He also added a 78% free throw percentage. Puckett completed his high school career at Hugenot High School in Richmond, Virginia where he averaged 21 points, six rebounds, and five assists as a senior. He was recruited by Arkansas-Little Rock, South Carolina State, Louisiana Tech, and Charleston Southern. He is the son of Claudine Puckett.

The addition of the three signees will add to an already great recruiting season for Rams basketball.
