Winston-Salem, NC - Wake Forest and Winston-Salem State, which met on the basketball court last season for the first time ever, will join forces again October 1 to host a one-day basketball camp for local youths.

The players and coaching staffs from both schools will work with approximately 100 students in grades 5-8 in the morning. Following the morning of basketball instruction, the kids will travel to First Baptist Church on Fifth Street to share lunch and to hear the comments and advice of the coaches and players.

The purpose of the camp is to bridge cultural gaps and to promote sports and spirituality in the Winston-Salem community. The Diversity Partnership Committee of the United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, pastored by Rev. Prince Raney Rivers, and the First Baptist Church on Fifth Street, pastored by Rev. David Hughes, organized the camp for the sixth year, along with the cooperation of Wake Forest Coach Skip Prosser and Winston-Salem State Coach Phillip Stitt.

In addition to the coaches and the churches, the camp sponsors include the BB&T, Mechanics and Farmers, and Wachovia banks whose support has demonstrated cooperation within Winston-Salem.
