Rams Ready To Take On The New Haven Chargers In NCAA Quarterfinals

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Week #13 for the WSSU Rams The #3 ranked Winston-Salem State Rams are venturing into uncharted territory for a CIAA school or any HBCU.

For the first time for WSSU or a HBCU, they have advanced to the quarterfinal round - the Elite 8 of NCAA DII football.

Saturday afternoon, at 12:00 pm in Bowman Gray Stadium, the WSSU Rams will face the Chargers of New Haven, in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs. 

This weekend marks the first all-time meeting between Winston-Salem State and New

Haven. Winston-Salem State defeated California (Pa) 35-28 last week at Bown Gray Stadium, in front of 7, 645 fans.

New Haven posted a 44-37 victory over Kutztown University in the second round of the NCAA Playoffs.

Saturday's matchup is the Super Region One Final, with a trip to the national semi-finals on the line.

The Rams are making their sixth appearance in the NCAA Playoffs, while the Chargers, winners of the northeast 10 Conference, enter the post-season for the fifth time in school history.

Winston-Salem State is making its fi rst appearance in the NCAA Division II Playoffs since 1991, while New Haven is making their second straight NCAA DII Playoff appearance.
