Winston-Salem State's Connell Maynor, Alton Keaton Earn Pigskin Club of Washington D.C. Honors

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Winston-Salem State University head football coach, Connell Maynor, and CIAA Defensive Player of the Year, Alton Keaton, have been selected as the Pigskin Club of Washington, D.C. 2011 CIAA Coach and Player of the Year and will receive the W. Henry "Stud" Greene and James Guy "Pete" Tyson Awards respectively .  Additionally, Winston Salem State University has been selected as our National Black College Champion and will receive the William G. Coward Award, at the 74th Annual Awards Dinner on Friday, February 10, 2012 at the Capital Hilton Hotel in Washington, DC. 

Both Maynor and Keaton will add this honor to the numerous honors they have received since the WSSU Rams finished the 2011 season with a 13-1 record, and a national semi-final berth in the NCAA DII Playoffs.

Connell Maynor has been selected as was chosen as the CIAA Coach of the Year, Boxtorow HBCU Coach of the Year and Black College Sports Page BAAD Team Coach of the Year

Alton Keaton (SR, 5-10, 190, Business Administration, Fayetteville, NC) was named CIAA Defensive Player of the Year, along with being named 1st team All-CIAA.  He has also been selected to the 1st team AP Little All-America and 1st team Boxtorow HBCU All-American.  Keaton led the team with 104 tackles, including 13 tackles for losses and two sacks.  He also finished with two interceptions, seven pass deflections, five breakups and had two blocked kicks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.  He was a team co-captain and helped lead the Rams to the CIAA Championship, Boxtorow HBCU Black College Title and SBN HBCU National Title.

Additionally, Winston Salem State University was chosen as the Pigskin Club of Washington, D.C.'s National Black College Champion.
