Post Game Quotes

WSSU Head Football Coach Kermit Blount

You guys obviously came to play tonight, tell me about what it means to get a win.
It's kind of hard to put a handle on why, but we moved the ball around, and offensively we moved the ball around in the first half well, and we probably should have scored a few more times, and defensively we played a stellar first half, and came out a bit and gave some things up in the second, but I think it's a much better feeling than its been over the last two weeks, and I am certainly happy to have the win.

Obviously the running game was working and PJ Southerland played the game of his life. Where was that all season?
I think that it being his last home game here at Bowman-Gray, and I think that all the seniors, maybe kind of stepped up their games a little bit, and we had some other guys really step up too, and I am just happy that these guys got their win at home in their last home game, and now we have to prepare for North Carolina Central.

You got some of the senior players who might not have seen a lot of time this season into the game. How does that feel to be able to do that?
It's a great thing. That is what it is all about in the game of college football. As much as you can possibly play guys like that and get them the time in their last home game, that is great. And to not only get them some playing time, but to get a win, that is what it is all about.

Whose decision was it to kick the 53 yard field goal?
Well, we just decided to give Matt a chance. We gave Matt the opportunity to go at it, and we thought that maybe it would give us some momentum and motivate the team if he made it. He had been kicking the ball well today and all week, and his range is right at about 50-yards, so we decided to go for it. I wanted to give him the chance, and he nailed it.

That is the first time you guys scored on your first possession all season.
I tell you what, its been a long season for us, but this kind of win is a good win for us.
