WSSU Football Vs. Catawba To Be Played At Bowman-Gray Stadium On August 27th, 2005

Aug. 21, 2005

Winston-Salem, NC - Winston-Salem State University Athletic Department Officials confirmed on Sunday morning that the Rams' football game versus Catawba College will be played at Bowman-Gray Stadium on August 27th, 2005 at 6:00 pm.

The contest, originally scheduled to take place at Deaton-Thompson Stadium, the home of the Parkland High School Mustangs, due to the Dodge Weekly NASCAR Racing Series having a rain-date scheduled for on August 27th, will now be played at Bowman-Gray Stadium as cooperative weather all racing season made the rain-date unnecessary.

The Rams, who open the season versus the Indians of Catawba College, an NCAA Division II football powerhouse, will now once again have home-field advantage over their opponent. This advantage may be just what the Rams need as they have never beaten Catawba. The two teams met in 1998 and 1999 with the Indians securing victories in both contests.

Commenting on the game once again being played at Bowman-Gray Stadium, WSSU Director of Athletics, Dr. Chico Caldwell issued the following statement.

"The game versus Catwaba will be played at Bowman-Gray Stadium on August 27th, 2005 at 6:00 pm. The final race of the season was held last night without incident, and the city has confirmed that the August 27th date is now open, and that we can play the game on our home field. This news is definitely good as Bowman-Gray is our home field, and we are excited to truly host this game at home. We are certainly appreciative of the cooperation that Parkland High School gave us in helping to secure an alternate venue (Deaton-Thompson Stadium) in case we needed it, and we are grateful that we were able to foster a close relationship between their athletic department officials and our staff at WSSU. We look forward to a good showing from our team, our fans, and our alumni this Saturday as we kick off the 2005 football season versus the Indians of Catawba College."
