Jed Bines Earns CIAA Player Of The Week Honors

Aug. 30, 2004

Hampton, VA - Winston-Salem State University sophomore running back Jerrick Bines (RB/Sophomore/Winston-Salem, NC) has been named the CIAA's Offensive Back Of The Week for the week ending August 28th, 2004.

Bines has started the season where he left off in 2003, breaking the 100-yard mark once again, something that he did five times in 2003 en route to CIAA All-Rookie Team honors.

On Thursday, August 26th, 2004 in the Rams' 48-32 loss to the sixth-ranked Eagles of Carson-Newman College he gained a career-high 169 yards on 19 carries (8.8 ypc) and scored a touchdown. His performance against the Eagles marks the first time that Carson-Newman had given up a 150-yard rusher since the 1993 season. For his efforts he was named the CIAA Offensive Back Of The Week.

In addition to earning CIAA honors, Bines has been named the WSSU-Crown Trophy Student-Athlete of the Week as well. He will look to help the Rams get back on track on Saturday, September 4th, 2004 at 6:00 pm when the Rams host Fort Valley State University in a non-conference football tilt at Bowman-Gray Stadium.

For additional information, or to set up an interview with Jed Bines, contact the WSSU Office Of Sports Information at (336) 750-2143.
