Winston-Salem, NC - WSSU junior quarterback Monte Purvis (Winston-Salem, NC/Parkland H.S.) has been selected as the WSSU Crown Trophy Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 22, 2006 for his impressive athletic performances over the past seven days as announced by the Winston-Salem State University Department of Athletics.

Purvis, a 5'11", 190-pound redshirt junior quarterback from Winston-Salem, NC led the Rams to a 38-6 road victory over the Tigers of Savannah State University as Winston-Salem State University improved to 3-5 overall.  Purvis recorded his first 100-yard passing game of the 2006 season as he completed six of his seven passes for 119 yards and a touchdown.  Purvis also ran for eight yards in the win over the Tigers who mistakenly scheduled the Rams as their Homecoming opponent.  For his efforts, he has been named the Crown Trophy WSSU Male Student-Athlete of the Week.
