Ram Golfers Turn In A Third-Place Finish At CIAA Western Division Golf Challenge

March 15, 2006

LOUISBURG, NC - The Winston-Salem State University men's golf team posted their second consecutive four-man total of 344 on Tuesday afternoon at the CIAA Western Division Golf Challenge at Bull Creek Golf Course in Louisburg, NC as the Rams finished in the third position with a two-day total of 688.

Enobong Udo of Johnson C. Smith was the individual medalist with a two-day total of 147 and North Carolina Central overtook first-day leader Fayetteville State to win the event among the CIAA teams with a score of 625.  Fayetteville State finished in the runner-up position with a two-day score of 631 with the Rams posting a 688 after firing back-to-back rounds of 344.

The Rams Lance Holmes was WSSU's individual second-day medallist with a round of 80.  He was joined in the 80's by Joshua Vogler who recorded a second-day total of 82 and Ernest Timmons who recorded an 86.  Brett Lindquist rounded out the Ram scorers with a round of 95.

All the golfers bravely battled the difficult course and the strong wind gusts at Bull Creek G.C. which resulted in higher second-round scores for many of the participants.

With the conclusion of the tournament, the Rams post their third straight top-five finish as they continue to show that they are a much-improved team over last season.

WSSU returns to action on April 9, 2006 at the CIAA Eastern Division Golf Challenge in Richmond, VA.  The three-day event will start on April 9 and conclude on April 11, 2006.
