Richmond, VA - The Winston-Salem State University Rams golf team finished in seventh place after two days of fierce CIAA golf competition at Peaches Golf Club in Richmond, VA after firing a combined team score of 835 (430 + 405 = 835) that placed them seventh out of nine CIAA teams as play concluded on Tuesday.
The Rams, who turned in a 430 yesterday that saw them place ahead of St. Paul's College and Virginia State on the first day of competition, reeled off a 405 on the final day to close out competition ahead of the Trojans and Tigers.
WSSU, who is in its first year of NCAA golf after a 17 year hiatus finished only 49 strokes behind the Panthers of Virginia Union University and 86 strokes behind the Vikings of Elizabeth City State.
The Rams were led by Brett Lindquist who shot a team-low 172 total for two days (92 + 80 = 172).
The Broncos of Fayetteville State University cruised to the win as they showed why they are the four-time National Minority Golf Championships title-winner after turning in a 615 (310 + 305 = 615).
The Eagles of North Carolina Central finished second behind the Broncos as they completed the competition only 64 strokes behind with a 679 (345 + 334 = 679).
The Rams return to action next week as they travel to Charlotte, NC to compete in the 2004 CIAA Golf Championship which begins on Wednesday.
