Elizabeth City, NC - The Winston-Salem State University men's golf team finished the first day of competition in the CIAA Eastern Division Golf Championships at the Carolina Club in Elizabeth City, NC sitting in fourth place out of a field of 10 total teams by turning in a day-one total of 395.
WSSU fired a 395 on the afternoon as Brett Lindquist once again led the Rams with a team-low round of 85. He was joined by Ernest Timmons who shot a 98, William Monk who recorded a 101 and Spencer Harrell who shot a 111. Tyrell McClelland shot a 130, but per NCAA and CIAA rules, his score was not used in team competition.
The Rams placed ahead of the host-team Vikings of Elizabeth City State University, the Tigers of Saint Paul's, the Trojans of Virginia State, the Falcons of Saint Augustine's College, the Panthers of Virginia Union and the Bears of Shaw.
The only three teams to score better than the Rams were the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University, the Eagles of North Carolina Central and the Broncos of Fayetteville State University. FSU recorded a first-place total of 315 while the Eagles finished in the runner-up slot with a team total of 323 and the Golden Bulls pulled into third place with a 341.
The Rams will return to action on April 12th, 2005 as they will compete in the final day of the 2005 CIAA Eastern Division Golf Championships at the Carolina Club in Elizabeth City, NC.
