PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - The Winston-Salem State University men's golf team turned in one of their most impressive rounds of the 2008 season on Friday afternoon at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. as the Rams combined for a team total of 312 behind the strong play of Kenneth Lathan who fired a team-low 76 in first-round action.
The Rams opened the 54-hole, stroke-play Championship with three rounds in the 70's and a pair of rounds in the 80's as WSSU proved to be in the midst of a title hunt in a field featuring 175 participants representing 36 colleges and universities.
The Rams were led by Lathan's first-round 76 as he turned in the lowest round of his WSSU career. Joining Lathan in the 70's was Joshua Sherell who fired a 77 and Lance Holmes who chipped in with a 78.

Jerrell Fields fired an 81 and Steven Mason closed out play with an 82 as the Rams completed first-round action on Friday afternoon with a team total of 312.
WSSU will return to action on Saturday morning as they begin round two action from the PGA Golf Club.
