Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University Department of Athletics has announced that the recently-resurrected Men's Golf program will begin the 2004 competition season when they play host to four CIAA golf powerhouses on March 4th, 2004 at Winston-Lake Golf Course.
WSSU Head Coach Lester Carpenter and his men's golfers will battle versus St. Augustine's College, Johnson C. Smith, Fayetteville State, and North Carolina Central in CIAA golf league action beginning at 11:00 am.
The WSSU golf team, whose home course is Winston-Lake Golf Course will be returning to action for the first time in over a decade.
WSSU Director of Athletics, Dr. Chico Caldwell had the following comment, "I am excited about the renewal of the golf program here at Winston-Salem State University. It offers another competitive avenue for our student-athletes to represent themselves and their school as members of the Winston-Salem State University golf program. These student-athletes are pioneers as they will attempt to bring back to WSSU, the glory that the golf program has generated in the past. The University as a whole, and the entire Department of Athletics is excited that Coach Carpenter has assembled such a fine group to represent WSSU in CIAA golf competition."
