Rams Battle, But Fall Short in 6-3 Loss to Shaw

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (6-3, 6-1 CIAA) took their first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) loss of the season, Monday when the team took a tough 6-3 loss to the defending conference champion Shaw Bears (10-1, 8-0 CIAA). Though the Rams gave it all they had, the team could overcome an aggressive Shaw team.

The Rams opened the day on a high note with a pair of doubles wins. After taking a default victory in #3 doubles, the Ram also took an 8-6 win in #1 doubles behind the play of senior Creighton Jones and sophomore Jonathan Aubrey. The Rams also recorded another default victory in singles play, but could not record anymore points in the match to take the 6-3 loss.

The loss was the first conference defeat for the Rams. The team will return to action Saturday when they host the Davis & Elkins Senators. For more information on Rams tennis, contact the WSSU Office of Athletic Media Relations at (336) 750-2143 or log on to www.WSSURams.com.
