RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (6-8, 6-2 CIAA) battled hard, but the team fell short in a tough 6-3 loss to the Shaw Bears (14-4, 12-0 CIAA), Monday afternoon. The Rams gave it their all, but the team could not get past the Bears in a battle for first place in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division.
The Rams began the match on a high note with a pair of doubles wins. The Rams took the #3 doubles win by default, and followed it with an 8-3 win by the tandem of freshman Corey Bonnette and sophomore Josh Aubrey. Singles play turned out to be much tougher for the Rams, however. After taking a default win at #6, the Rams took losses in the other five singles matches to take the tough loss.
With the loss, the Rams remain second in the CIAA Southern Division. The team will return to action, Thursday, when the team hosts the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls in a 2:00 p.m. match for second place in the division.
