Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Appalachian State improved to 3-1 with a 7-0 win over Winston-Salem State on Sunday afternoon as the Rams fell to 1-4 on the young season.   The loss marks the second consecutive defeat for the Rams as ASU has won three straight after a season-opening loss to South Carolina.

The Mountaineers had little trouble defeating the Rams (1-4).  ASU took the doubles point with a trio of 8-1 victories and followed it up with a win in the singles competition as the Mountaineers swept the Rams 6-0 in the six singles flights.

Every player on ASU's roster saw action. Peter Jacobs and David Doverspike moved up to Nos. 1 and 2 on the afternoon.  Zack Williams played in his second match of the season at No. 3, winning 6-1, 6-1.  Britton Webb, Gareth Thomas and Matt Sand all saw their first action of the season, rounding out Nos. 4 through 6 for Appalachian State.

The Rams' lineup was unchanged headed into Sunday's action as all six singles, and all three double flights were identical to the lineup from WSSU's four previous matches.

Sunday's match is the last for WSSU until Saturday, February 24, 2007 when the Rams travel to Buies Creek, NC to face the Camels of Campbell and the Eagles of North Carolina Central in a non-conference tennis tri-match.
