Richmond, VA - The struggle continues for the Winston-Salem State University men's tennis team as the Rams remained winless in 2004 as they lost the first of a pair of matches to the Panthers of Virginia Union University on Sunday afternoon in Richmond, VA by the score of 4-2.
The Rams, who fall to 0-5 on the season thus far in 2004, recorded points at the first singles slot and the first doubles slot.
WSSU's Jayson Williams (Sr./Jacksonville, NC) breezed by VUU's Tyrone Goodman by the score of 8-0 in the first match of the afternoon to give WSSU their first of two points they would score in the match.
Williams was also responsible for the second WSSU point of the afternoon when he paired with Daniel Gary (Jr./Pasadena, CA) at first doubles as the Rams earned an 8-1 victory over Virginia Unions Tyrone Goodman and Adriane Smith. However, it was not enough as WSSU fell in defeat at the second, third and fourth singles slots and the second and third doubles slots as VUU earned the CIAA league win.
With the loss, the Rams fall to 0-5 on the season and return to action in the second match of two versus Virginia Union at 2:00 pm.
