Rams Unable To Complete Season Sweep; Fall To Guilford College 4-3

March 25, 2008

Final Stats

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Winston-Salem State University men's tennis team was unable to complete the season sweep of the Guilford College Quakers on Tuesday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C. as Guilford avenged an earlier-season loss to the Rams as they handed WSSU a 4-3 defeat at the Guilford College Tennis Center.

The match would ultimately come down to the doubles point as the two teams split the six singles matches as Brian Coxton won for the Rams at first singles; Maximilian Glodde won at second singles; and Andrew Jones won at sixth singles as the Rams and Quakers headed to doubles action deadlocked at 3-3.

However, unfortunately for the Rams the Quakers swept all three doubles matches as Jose Ortiz/Caleb Kimbrough defeated Brian Coxton/Maximilain Glodde 9-7 at first doubles; Alec Chase/Will Mason-Deese defeated Ian Hunter and Troy Moore at second doubles 8-4; and Ryo Kawai/Mike Muir defeated Daren Milbourne/Andrew Jones 8-4 at third doubles as Guilford College secured the coveted doubles point and the 4-3 match victory.

The loss marks the Rams' eighth consecutive defeat as Winston-Salem State University falls to 1-19 overall on the season.  The win improves Guilford to 1-18 on the season.

WSSU returns to action on Thursday, March 27 at the WSSU Tennis Complex as they play host to the Pirates of Hampton University.
