Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University men's tennis team earned their first win of the 2005 season on Saturday afternoon at the WSSU Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, NC as they recorded a 7-2 win over the Tigers of Saint Paul's College in the first of a pair of CIAA tennis matches.
The Rams would drop the first two matches in the singles competition as Daniel Gary suffered an 8-3 loss at first singles, and Antonio Degraffenreadt fell in defeat at second singles as the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the match.
However, the Rams would close the door from there as they held the Tigers without a point for the remainder of the match en route to the 7-2 victory, WSSU's first of the season.
The Rams would be the beneficiary of a trio of defaults on the day as WSSU earned the free points at fifth and sixth singles, and third doubles.
Both teams return to the court at 2:00 PM as they will compete in the second match of a pair of league contests.
