Winston-Salem, NC - The Winston-Salem State University men's tennis team earned their second consecutive win over Saint Paul's College, and second win of the 2005 season on Saturday afternoon at the WSSU Tennis Complex in Winston-Salem, NC as they recorded a 6-2 win over Saint Paul's College in the final match of a pair of CIAA tennis matches as the completed a sweep of the visiting Tigers.
The Rams would drop the first three matches in the singles competition as Daniel Gary suffered an 8-1 loss at first singles, Antonio Degraffenreadt fell in defeat at second singles by the score of 8-4 and Patrick Jenkins lost to M. Powell at third singles 8-4 as the Tigers jumped out to a 3-0 lead early in the match.
However, the Rams would close the door from there as they held the Tigers without a point for the remainder of the match en route to the 6-3 victory, WSSU's first of the season.
The Rams would be the beneficiary of a trio of defaults on the day as WSSU earned the free points at fifth and sixth singles, and third doubles.
With the win, their second of the afternoon, the Rams improve to 2-3 overall on the season. WSSU will return to action on March 31st, 2005 at 1:00 PM as they welcome the Trojans of Virginia State University to the WSSU Tennis Complex for a pair of CIAA tennis matches.
