WSSU Men's Tennis Gets First Signee of 2007

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Winston-Salem State University men's tennis team got its first signee of 2007 when Brian Coxton signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Rams this year. The Rams got a lift in both the talent and character with Coxton's sgining.

 

"[Brian] is an all-around good kid that is an excellent tennis player as well. He will definitely come in and play very high in the lineup," WSSU head tennis coach Charles Schoderbek said. "The Rams tennis program is very fortunate to sign a player of his caliber."

 

The son Jerome and Linda Coxton, Brian heads to Winston-Salem State with an impressive high school career and will look to continue to grow with the WSSU tennis program that is continuing its transition into NCAA Division I.

 

A native of Atlanta, Georgia,  Brian attended North Atlanta High School where is was the team's top seeded player and earned the Coaches Award as well as the team's Player of the Year award. He was also a member of the high school's performing arts program. Brian began playing tennis nine years ago and had played in numerous USTA tournaments as well asl taking part in the U.S. Youth Games for over five years. He also received the Player of the Year award from the COAN Tennis Association in Atlanta where he continues to volunteer his time to help other kids with tennis lessons. He has also participated in the "I Had a Dream (IHAD)" program in Atlanta, Georgia since the third grade.
