Experienced Rams Take the Court at 2nd Annual Dr. Robert Walker Johnson Invitational

Sept. 13, 2007

ETTRICK, VA - The Winston-Salem State Rams tennis teams will get their first taste of competition this weekend when they take part in the 2nd Annual Dr. Robert Walker Johnson Invitational. The Lady Rams will feature an extremely young squad with four of their six players taking the court for the first time at collegiate players. The Rams will feature a pair of true freshmen this weekend.

The tournament will feature Morgan State, Shaw, Norfolk State, North Carolina Central, Delaware State, District of Columbia, and host Virginia State. Both the Rams and Lady Rams will be in competition at the tournament. It will be the first competition of the season for both teams.

Leading the way for the Lady Rams will be sophomore Terese Lavan, last season's team MVP and Jessica Smith, another top freshman on last season's squad. The Rams welcome back an experienced squad, led by seniors Andrew Jones and Daren Milbourne and will count on that experience to get a successful start to the 2007-08 season.

Both WSSU teams will open play on Friday. The tournament will continue through Sunday.
