Personal: Shaun Spencer joins the Winston-Salem State track & field coaching staff this season focusing primarily as the jump coach for the Rams and Lady Rams. A talented athlete in his own right, Spencer brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to an already talented WSSU coaching staff.
Spencer began his coaching career at Oxen Hill High School in Oxen Hill, Maryland where he not only acted as jump coach for the squad, but spent the summer coaching the Rising Star Track Team and Potomac High School summer track. He remained in Maryland where he was granted the position of jump coach from the fall of 2003 to the spring of 2006. During his tenure, Spencer helped guide the Bowie State Lady Bulldogs to their first CIAA championship, defeating St. Augustine's for the title. Under his tutelage, Spencer has helped guide six athletes to qualifying for the NCAA Division II Nationals with five attending. Of the five attending nationals, four brought home All-American honors as well.
As an athlete, Spencer has enjoyed a solid career at Bowie State University from 2002-03. He has also competed as a member of the Maryland Elites Olympic Development team in Landover, Maryland from 2001-03 and a member of the Mid-Atlantic Elite Track Club. One of the best jumpers on the team, Spencer posted a personal best of 25 feet and one inch.
Spencer is a 2006 graduate of Bowie State University with e Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Technology Networking.
