JOHNSON CITY, TN - The Winston-Salem State Rams and Lady Rams indoor track & field teams closed another great weekend with a solid day at the 2010 Niswonger Foundation Indoor Track & Field Invitational, Saturday. While the WSSU sprinters and middle distance runners took the stage on the first day, it was the WSSU relay teams that took center stage, Saturday.
Senior sprinter Paul Williams set the tone for the Rams with a third place finish in the men's 60m dash finals. After posting the eighth best time in the qualifying round, Williams broke out to finish third with a 6.92 in the finals. The Rams' distance medley relay teams kept things started with a seventh place finish in the event. As a team, the squad posted a 10:33.22 in the event. The Rams' 4x400m relay team also had a strong day, finishing 11th with a 3:23.10.
The Lady Rams' relay teams also had a strong day with at event, placing 10th in the women's distance medley relay. The team posted a 12:59.94 at the event. The Lady Rams' 4x400m relay team placed 15th with a 4:02.37.
Individually, the Lady Rams competed in the women's 800m run with junior Taylor Calamese finishing 21st in the event with a 2:28.84 while freshman Manuela Rigaud added a 40th place finish in 2:35.86.
The Rams and Lady Rams will have a bit of a break as the team will wait until February 12th when the teams head to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take part in the Carolina Invitational.
